| Thieves steal gravestone of Ian Curtis! |
| 04/07/2008 |
![]() The gravestone of Ian Curtis has been stolen from the Macclesfield cemetery where the Joy Division singer is buried.
The gravestone of Curtis, who committed suicide in 1980 at the age of 23, was inscribed with the words “Love Will Tear Us Apart” – Joy Division’s biggest-selling hit released a month before his death.
A police spokesman commented: “There is no CCTV in the area and there are no apparent leads as to who is responsible for the theft.
“This is a very unusual theft and I am confident that someone locally will have knowledge about who is responsible or where the memorial stone is at present”.
The popularity of Joy Division has grown over recent year’s following the release of Anton Corbijn’s Ian Curtis biopic, Control, and a recent documentary on the band.
I thought the the used tissue I snatched from Shaun Ryder was disgusting; but stealing the gravestone of one of post-punk's most iconic figures is bloody sick. |
