According to a statement released this morning, club night Wax:On’s first large-scale festival, due to take place in Leeds on May 31st, has been cancelled.
Bands including Primal Scream and Late of the Pier were set to play at Wax:On Live, alongside over 50 acts and DJs. The six separate arenas on the site of historical country manor, Lotherton Hall, were due to due to be hosted by different club nights and record labels.
According to this mornings statement, the one-day festival fell victim not to poor ticket sales or a lack of support, but the credit crunch that has hit the UK.
"On forming the company there were two streams of investment scheduled in order to ensure the event was viable in year one," event promoter Dan Blackledge explained.
"This morning we have been informed that due to circumstances in the global financial market place and its knock on effect, the event has become unsustainable."
"We send out most sincere apologies to all of you that have bought tickets. We threw everything we had at the event to try and make it go ahead and we're really disappointed we couldn't see it through.''
Wax:On have instructed all ticket agents to give full refunds to all ticket holders. Rest assured, the Wax:On club nights will continue to rock the cities of Leeds, Newcastle and Brighton.
